Are you a woman or something else?

Poem by: Thaira Albazi

Translated from Arabic by: Freeyad Ibrahim

He exhaled,
Said words,
Faded, lingered,
Spoke it,
Filled with vanity,
And pride
Wondering,
Leaving me no choice
Did he say it spontaneously:
Are you a woman or something else ?
A quarrelsome mistress,
A rebel, fond of dispute.
And I am he who puts out the volcano,
You are a lioness,
Who sees a lion for a man.
And I am none but he who offers you:
Obedience, gratitude, and high esteem.
Patiently,
I wonder with gesture of the hand:
" Who admitted you to the presence of the Sultan?"
Notwithstanding, I will try my hardest to be the Sultan.
In order to persuade my Self
To start a dialogue in equality.
But sooner no later,
I become in his presence too weak to be even Myself!
