The Passageway of the Beach

Poem by : Shokan Aziz
Translation by : Freeyad Ibrahim

*************************************************

The loaf of bread is the moon of our night
It is getting up yawning yet upright
In my hand palms the woman of Time
Is anointing and painting her breasts white
with the Tower-of- Babylon’s light
************************************
The goat’s bleating, the fishers’ banging

The overloaded net with the waters’ giggling

Men go round their prayers mingling
And their blue hymning and their blue singing

By the dusk... it was overall ringing
ö
A child is gazing far away cringing
A band of wolves at the clouds nibbling
The bloods with their fiery tongues licking

********************************************
All at a sudden..

A blond thunder descended roaring
Eradicated his parents, a cowardly killing
A warfare helicopter was above soaring
Its pilot said: the blanks we are filling
While he was at his fingers licking

*********************************

Like bloodied dust they crumbled each
And greeted their child at its last heart- beat
In the Time’s ways they took all their seat
And sat so at the wide river’s beach .
