90 million salute to Egyptians for their will to change
One of the most advantages of the western civilization over their neighbors, (the Arabs and the Muslims) is the democratic regime and the freedom of speech, which it was known very clearly after the collapse of the former empires of the West.
In fact what happened in Western Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, considered by all means a cornerstone for building a modern civil state, which began calling for the separation of church control over states.
The sovereignty of the people that was fulfilled in the west after the establishment of a democratic parliamentary system, through majority rule and voting, passed on from people to the government. And the most important duties of the state in these kinds of regimes are the treatment of the individual as citizens with full rights and duties, and the practice of people to achieve their rights and interests.
Of course the western democratic countries emphasized very hard to reach their goals, for freedom of worship to all the citizens with tolerance of all forms of belief, religiously, intellectually and socially. The Europeans were very keen to these achievements with few changes here and there, considering the concept of separation between state and religion altogether (with some exception, linked between the two parties, nominally, no more, no less).
However, the Western States succeeded in using religion as means to calm and stabile their democratic systems, rather than fighting it. Especially they were fully aware that religion includes very high moral ammunition. Therefore cannot be prevented´-or-denial of its role in the community as it happened during the communist regime, and there repressive practices against religions during their control in almost every single country .
It should be noted also, that the West did not reach to this kind of achievements, without neutralizing religious power from the circle of political disputes, while they granted equal rights to all citizens, who are subject to one law.
Don’t you thing (we as Arabs and Muslims), need to have this kind of ideology today in our countries in Middle East and in the Islamic world. Don’t you thing that we need to be honest enough, for the sake of the future generations, to adopt this modern democracy, which is proven fact to be the best embodiment of this concept.
Therefore it is imperative, to examine the history of Europe and America, and to learn from their experiences in parliamentary democracy in order to benefit from their experiences in building a modern civil state. So we can save our people from getting lost and falling in battle policies and revolutions, which are mainly due to interference of religious interpretation of everything that is happening around us.
But I am very optimist despite all the dark clouds surrounding the region. Especially that Egypt, which is considered to be the core of the Arabs and the Islamic world, took the right step by giving a great message of the will of the people and the need of their people to establish a civil state.
I felt very happy when I was following all the process of changes in Egypt, and I am very positive that the country would overcome all the obstacles both internally and externally, and that would not be for sure an easy task. But I am certain that the will of the people would succeed in the end, and Egypt would turn to be one of the first Arab and Islamic countries to achieve this goal. I wish also for Egypt to be the first model in Middle East and to be able to establish a free democratic system, with freedom of expression, as well as creating a culture tolerant with others, to respect all religions without discrimination, and to achieve the foundations and principles of power-sharing.
