Who leads the Enlightenment movement in the Islamic world today?! !
Enlightenment movement played an important role in saving the western world of the intellectual autarchy, as it is commonly known. But the Muslim world is still suffering from this terrible scourge that dominates the destinies of the people very badly. Because the Arabs and the Muslims, whenever, tried to open a window for change, some current known repressive practices, blocked the roads to stay away from modernity and new civilized way of living, under the pretext of preserving the religion and the heritage of the nation .
The problem is not in the Enlightenment movement itself, but in the nature of thinking, of the people and of the religious leaders. It seems to me. that they are confused of the enlightenment and modernity on one hand, and western Christianity on the other hand-;- as if the Enlightenment is linked to the Christian religion, even though Christianity itself had suffered a lot from this movement in the eighteenth and the nineteenth century in Europe. Fortunately the Christian religion, found her way to harmony with the secular systems and with the concepts of democracy, But the Islamic world seems to be very hard to accept these ideas and ideologies. No wonder they continued to struggle with the idea of the enlightenment, despite the fact that the concept of the enlightenment does not contradicts with the core of the Islamic faith.
One of the most important meanings in this concept is to look for the new future toward modernity, and to accept the laws of evolution, as well as to reset the account of science and reason, with recognition of rights and fundamental freedoms of the individuals, in addition to that, maintaining the spirit of tolerance and interaction with others.
In fact, the problem is not with Islam itself but with the fundamental groups and the religious leaders. I am certain that we are in -dir-e need of this kind of values, as we achieve, the Renaissance in all different kind of fields and areas-;- thus we will not be looked strangers on the eyes of the world, which is watching us very carefully and making mockery of us for the lack of the infrastructures, industrials, human rights in our societies and communities, and with repressive actions and practices toward our people and our own communities.
We cannot deny that some of the Arabs and the Muslims intellectuals started the Enlightenment movement modestly, since the mid- nineteenth century, but the movement, failed miserably as the result of the predominance of repressive political regimes, which led to the predominance of totalitarian mentality, who were opposed to freedom and democracy. But the dreams and the hopes of the Arabs and the Muslim intellectuals and thinkers, did not go in vain, because the means of modern communication, and modern technologies, which called “internet” played a great role to complete the mission of the thinkers and the dreams of the intellectuals by creating an access to enter in to our homes, families, where our fathers and grandfathers had lived, and began the process of changing our minds and hearts, as well as renewing our education systems persistently in order to have new behaviors, political, economic and social systems.
The most important of those scientific techniques monopoly arena, is the Internet which became as a university in every home and suburbs. In addition to that, it can be acquired at discounted prices, and easy to use.
The Islamic world is in -dir-e need of these electronic technologies and social networks that is beginning to emerge and to led to increase in numbers of users of Muslims and Arabs every day, and the number of subscribers reached in the millions today, and increasing every single day.
The prime advantage task in these networks lies in being transported news very quickly, particularly with regard to the exchange of messages, ideas and opinions and transferring photos, videos, and comments-;- as well as, fueling the masses of peoples, in spite of the poor quality of the images sometimes.
It should be noted that, these networks and technologies has played a great role during the Arab spring demonstrations, which took place in Tunisia and Egypt, and other Arab countries, and led to cancellation of the barriers, and helping to interact peoples, communicate with each other, and became a common space for dialogue and exchange of views and ideas.
Indeed the Arab and the Islamic governments were shocked and amazed by the power and the effectiveness of this social networking, and did not take into account the extent of the greatness of the Internet and various services. They tried their best after recent incidents to silence these networks, but failed very badly.
It is expected that the Internet would play a much stronger role in the near future to bring people together, and to expos the tyranny in all its forms and to change hopefully the political map of the world.
