,,Native Speaker" Syndrome and the Loss of Linguistic Identity

Global English (GE) makes English a world property. We have a linguistic development unprecedented in human history. It is no more the property of the English, Americans or some Canadians or Australians:

1. Neutrality: Like the ascension of a dialect to the throne of a standard language a Global English must acquire neutrality to be accepted by everybody. It becomes everybody s property. You can teach English even if you are from Waizoona provided that you have acquired the necessary qualifications.

2. Equality. Please GE free us from the linguistic terrorism of Toms, Johns and the many Richards starting with the first and ending with the eighth. They have been doing big business with you for a long time now and we have been discriminated against. Any dish washer from Birmingham or America was given priority over you to teach English even without any qualifications. You know communication was not at best with some of them. After all linguistic laziness, this is what they are famous for, should not be rewarded and will not qualify them to teach you. We have suffered a lot.

3. Varieties: no more BE or AmE and no more of the pedantic insistence no to mix the two. Take any one of the many Englishes, mix them the way you like because they cannot guarantee successful communication anyway. Some of them who speak it only mumble. Remember you don t only do business with the Americans, do you? The majority of your customers come from elsewhere.

4. Kill the linguistic patriotism and nationalism prevalent in some other parts of the world. Rob them of their pride and prejudice. Show them they are not better than me by the virtue of their birth.

5. Make the world a more peaceful place, restore humanity and justice to the human beings and *** the (Linguistic) Borders.
