Defend International Celebrates Its New Establishment

Our human rights defenders are acting for liberating humanity from suffering, injustice and gross and inhumane violations of human rights and humanitarian law



Oslo, June, 2007 /Defend International/ -- The modern age of human rights work began in 1948, when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was published by the united nations, changing the way the recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family as foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world . Today, we do have many organizations promoting the development of friendly relations between individuals and nations, but we still do not have equal rights or equal justice under the law.



The structure of Defend International (DI) ensures that the organization is driven by the needs and priorities of its members and supporters. DI will works throughout Middle East, Northern Africa and the rest of the globe to create more open societies, enhance human rights protections, and encourage the implementation of economic and political policies firmly rooted in democracy, justice and equality .



"Defend International is a global organization with highly diverse participants in different fields of work around the world," said Widad Akrawi, founder and chair of Defend International.

She continued, "Defend International is going to serve hundreds of thousands of individuals. Yet despite our global reach, the success of Defend International will still beholden to one thing above all else -- our close, collaborative relationship between our defenders, the media and other NGOs. We understand that much of the value we bring to our members is incumbent upon the media viewing Defend International as reliable and credible networks defending human rights, not accepting any formula or plan from any side and not going to wait for the green light on a modern avenue."



It is Defend International s pleasure to serve international human rights and humanitarian law. DI will provide innovative solutions to end the violations and somehow contribute to reducing suffering, guilt, shame and self-blame of the victims, survivors and their families. - To provide mental health services, free counseling services and legal and economic aid to women and children. We believe that legal assistance should be combined with economic aid otherwise the process of rehabilitating of victims and their families would be much more complicated and difficult and less effective. That s we are going to develop a system with which the supporters and the members can follow the path of their donations with 0 administration costs.
