CAMPEIGN OF RESPECTING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY

In the name of humanity, freedom and equality…
We are, women & men, a group of civil society, women, political organizations, youth & students unions & independent characters from different Iraqi communities in Kirkuk Province.
As we notice that UN Charter confirms on the believe of basic human rights, dignity & destiny of individual and of equal rights of women & men.
As we see that Universal Declaration of Human Rights confirms prevention of discrimination, it also declares that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity & rights and every one is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind such as sex.
As we see also that signed members in both international covenants on human rights have the duty to guarantee the rights of men & women to enjoy equally all the economic social cultural and political rights.
We also take in consideration that international agreements, sponsored by UN & specialized agencies, which encourage equality in terms of rights between men & women.
As we see that decrees, declarations & recommendations, by UN & its specialized agencies, confirms equality of rights between men & women.
As we see that the preamble of Iraqi permanent Constitution confirms that "Let us build our new Iraq, Iraq of future clear of any sectarian racism regionism nor discrimination or marginalizing"
It confirms also "We determined, with our men & women, old & young to respect rules of law, achieving justice & equality, discarding aggression, focusing on women & their rights, old persons & their burdens, child & their affairs, encouraging culture of diversity & enrooting terrorism"
Article 14 of the this constitution confirms that "Iraqis are equals before the law without discrimination basis on sex or race or ethnicity or origin or color or religion or sector or believe or opinion or economic or social status"
Women are concerned, although of these different laws & agreements there are still wide range discrimination against women.

As a result, we obligated ourselves to demand in achieving justice & equality between men & women in the occasion of International Women Day on March 8th by raise the following humanitarian demands:
1- The International Women Day to be set as official day in Iraq, according to Iraqi Permanent Constitution (Article 12: Secondly: All the medals, official days, religious national occasions & Hijri and Christian Calendar should be organized by a decree)
2- Making necessary modern changes & amendments in Iraqi Individual Affairs Law (number 188) of 1959 & its amendments.
3- Activating articles of CEDAW, according to joining & approval of Iraq on it on August 13th 1986 except of those 4 articles that Iraq has reservations on them recently which are: Article 2 "Paragraphs F & G", Article 9, Article 16, Article 29 "Paragraph 1".
4- Remove Iraq s reservation from Paragraph G of Article 2 of CEDAW.
This memorandum is directed to the following official sides:

• Iraqi High Independent Commission of Human Rights
4- Judicial Authority:
• Chair of Iraqi High Federal Court.
5- Federal Authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan Region:
• President of Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
• Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister.
• Chairman of Iraqi Kurdistan National Parliament.
6- Local Relevant Sides:
• All Iraqi Political Parties
• Independent Non Governmental Organizations in Iraq.
• Female & Male Human Rights Activists in Iraq.
7- International Relevant Sides:
• Representative of UN Secretary to Iraq.
• US Ambassador to Iraq.
• UK Ambassador to Iraq.
• Leader of PRT in Kirkuk
• All International NGO in Iraq
