Miriam’s Dream
Miriam said: I gave birth to half a dozen sons. Although a lot of women envied me, to me this was a curse not a blessing for it meant seven men wanted to be waited on. Then she said: You know Son when I had the first three of you, a strange and agonizing dream set in. In this dream one of my sons was lost and I often woke up bathed in sweat. I worried and suffered. I could not understand why such a dream kept recurring and which of my three sons was meant.

I didn’t tell anybody about my dream and I had such a feeling of pressure in my head and on my shoulders that I was finally forced to go to a dream interpreter. He was a man of great renown in the town. He listened attentively until I finished and then kept quiet for a while. When he noticed how much I suffered he raised his head, looked at me compassionately, took one of my hands and said: True, you are definitely going to lose one of your sons for a long time and I cannot tell you which of your three sons….. But don’t worry this will take a turn for the better for your family.

I was relieved a bit but the dream kept tormenting me until you left. I asked: Why didn’t you tell me about it? She didn’t answer but asked: Son, why did you leave for such a long time? Then she said: in a way it was good for without your help we couldn’t have survived. But I know well you were mummy s boy who had already been lost even before leaving and I should have known that.
