Role Plays
Of course he gave his wife all reason not to trust him because he had already made his decision to leave her. He said it aloud again and again when he was angry and alone. He vowed: I am not going to stay with her forever. I am just waiting for the right moment or the right woman. Whenever he worked with women he begged them not to phone him at home. One day when they were in the city she left him after shouting at him in public because he was looking at other women. She thought he was not respecting her feelings. He told his colleagues his wife was extremely jealous to the degree she was even jealous of the women he looked at in the magazines or on TV. Still, one day one stupid woman he worked with phoned him at home. His wife was on the phone.

When he came back home he heard his wife talking to her mother on the phone about him. He heard how she insulted him most abusively and saying: Mother, you know he is a foreigner. This is typical of people with no culture and manners. He wished he could hit her in the face and silence her tongue but he controlled himself because he knew she would phone the police and the police would only believe her. He remembered how one day she ran out of the house naked. He didn’t know what to do but follow her and bring her back before anybody saw her. One day she locked herself in the bedroom. In his despair he went to the caretaker to help him. But she often either locked him in or out. He even though of renting a room somewhere in case something happened late in the evening.

She also threatened many times to throw herself out of the window from the second floor after a row or take a kitchen knife out of a drawer and warn she would hurt herself.. When the police came they saw him holding her firmly. They thought he was pushing her out of the window - they shouted at him to let her go. He shouted back and said: I am holding her because she said she was throwing herself out of the window. He often panicked when she threatened although he knew she was not serious. He didn’t even want to hit back when she turned violent because he knew it would go on till complete exhaustion. The police once even remarked that he was standing peacefully around. One day she brazenly told him: Do you really believe I would throw myself out of the window. How naïve are you? He felt angry but couldn’t wait and call her bluff.

Then he left the flat and went downstairs to drive to his training course some hundred miles away. But before he could get into his car he noticed all his clothes in the wardrobe were flying out of the window and landing on the street. He collected them, put them in the boot of his car and drove off. He was so furious that he was shouting and damning himself for not being able to separate from her. Then he noticed he didn’t have any money in his wallet, there was not enough petrol in the car and it was Sunday. There were no cash points available at that time. He went to a neighbor and requested to borrow some money but as usual they said they didn’t happen to have any money on them. He knew one of his wife’s friends and drove straight to her house.

Barbara opened the door and he went upstairs. He told her what had happened and that now all his clothes were in the car boot. She couldn’t believe it and said: it sounds as if it was a film not real. Then Barbara phoned her and she got even more furious. She asked her to throw him out. But Barbara said she couldn’t do it and that he needed to borrow some money for petrol. From that moment on Barbara’s phone didn’t stop ringing. She and her mother took turns phoning. Her mother said: he didn’t behave himself. A woman who was staying with Barbara watched the barrage of phone attacks and said: what vixen those two females were. Barbara made a tomato soup for him, gave him some money and then he left.

Two hours later he arrived at his destination. He went up to his room and the phone rang. It was the reception desk and a man’s voice said: some woman has been trying to phone you. He said she was now on the phone and asked him to come down and answer it. He knew it was her who changed her voice and said something like sorry wrong number…. .She had often done that when he answered the phone. Now she wanted to make sure he didn’t spend the night at Barbara’s house. It would have bugged her so much.

This was nothing new to him for he was now used to it. He swore and cursed time and again but didn’t do anything about it. It was as if he was paralyzed. It took him a long time until he found somebody and decided to leave her. But the problem was now he had a son with her and couldn’t stop his contacts because of his son. He gave her his new phone number so that she could leave a message in case his son was ill whenever he went to see his new girlfriend 300 KM away. One day his new girl friend surprised him and said she got a phone call from a woman called Ulla who claimed he was the kind of man who had many affairs with women. He had a love affair with her too but she wanted to warn her. Later they found out the so called Ulla was his ex wife who changed her voice again to play a new role.
