PFLP denounces US approval of 2500 housing units in West Bank settlements


The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine reiterated its position of refusing all reliance on the position of the U.S. administration under United States president Barack Obama, on July 7, 2009.

Comrade Hussein al-Jamal, member of the Central Committee of the PFLP, stated that the real translation of Obama s speech, which had prompted some to falsely rely on the role of the United States or presume some shift in U.S. attitudes to the Palestinian cause, was to approve the construction of 2500 Israeli settlement housing units in the West Bank.

He added, "This shows beyond any doubt that the American/Israeli imperial coalition is the most powerful relationship" and that any reliance on the "new American administration" is a desperate gamble of Arab regimes and some Palestinian trends that means a slide into normalization. The U.S. is attempting to utilize this "optimism" and reliance on its supposedly new position to engineer normalization with the occupation state. Any real change in U.S. policy would be based, on the other hand, on international law and resolutions, including UN Resolution 194, upholding the right of return for Palestinian refugees to their homes, from which they were displaced by the Zionist occupation.

The reality is that the American position does not go beyond that of the Israelis, and reveals the unwillingness of the U.S. administration to raise its position to even that which approaches the official Arab position.

He warned against any Palestinian attempts to rely on American attitudes or accept American interference, stressing that the most powerful weapon in the face of these policies is a united national front, and urged serious comprehensive Palestinian national dialogue in order to meet the challenge, end the division and build a unified national political program.
