Did You Know How Great You Are?

“There is as much greatness of mind in acknowledging a good turn as in doing it.” ~ Seneca

Yes, you. You are great. I know this without questioning it, but the more important thing is this: “Do YOU know you are great?”

Quite often, we don’t receive much praise to celebrate our accomplishments as we are growing up. Some parents think it’s unnecessary to praise their children; some think it is harmful, so their children remain un-praised. Perhaps you were one of that kind of child.

As we live our lives, many of us are not taught that self-praise is worthwhile. It is. It’s important as you grow, change, and unfold more about your own individuality that you acknowledge your successes. It’s important that you know how good you are. Every single success you experience becomes the stepping stone for you to build your next success, in an ever-unfolding upward spiral of success.

I know that when you observe other successful people, you can see how important all the steps they have taken toward success have become a foundation for their current successful state. I have a question for you about this very important recognition of others.

How do you know?

I propose this is how you know. It happens so quickly that unless we slow ourselves down to examine these issues with a high magnification in a slow environment, we might miss them. You go within yourself, within your own mentality, and you experience this process.

• We see another individual doing something wonderful.
• We go inside ourselves and we tell ourselves this is wonderful.
• We check to be sure it’s wonderful while we’re inside there by checking inside ourselves to see if it’s good, true, perfect, harmonious, beautiful and loving. (Remember, this is at light speed, so we don’t consciously recognize all this is occurring. It’s similar to the small print on a balloon that has to be blown up in order to be read easily.)
• The qualities of good, truth, perfection, harmony, beauty and love are in there, so when we check for another, it’s against ourselves we are checking.
• We say to the other person “That was great!”

It is impossible to recognize greatness in others without possessing it yourself.

The unfoldment through our own issues and experiences is what permits us to see progress in another. You were born with all that you could possibly express “infolded” inside yourself during the earliest days of your life here on earth. Your parents nudged it to come out and show itself, but the important thing to recognize is that it was always in there. Part and parcel of any problems that may arise for you is to recognize what is there, why it is there, and how to nurture it into something bigger and better. That is how we foster our own greatness, and it’s how I know you are great. I went inside me and I checked. Sure enough. You are great.

“Don t forget to pack your courage for your journey to greatness.” ~ David Weinbaum
