What Spiritual Awakening is Below the Surface?

Giving people self-confidence is by far the most important thing that I can do. Because then they will act. ~ Jack Welch

When you were a baby, you faced thousands of challenges: Where’s the next meal coming from? How do I get my diaper changed? Who is this man holding me and smiling? And who’s the guy beside him? How do I quit laying on my back? What will it take to touch that bright thing hanging over my head? These elements triggered an incredible spiritual awakening inside of you. It fostered the spiritual health you have today.

As you became a toddler, and then moved on up through each of your birthdays, the challenges presented themselves continuously, and if you step back a bit out of your subjective experience and look to see more objectively what’s been happening, you will notice that the challenges are still presenting themselves.

I believe that life is truly about answering the question “What am I made of and what am I capable of?” These challenges are the test of your mettle and I suspect you’re getting an A+ for handling them. I know that personally, I don’t get to move along Life’s Path until I move the most current rocks out of my way. That earns both an A+ and the next challenge! Has this been your experience too?

As we walk our life path, we see the bigger rocks off in the distance and we have this tendency to whine, sink to our knees, and whimper “Oh, no, not another one!” I have learned that we are never given a challenge that we cannot figure out and for which we are completely capable of creating some wonderful solution. I’d like to suggest that you consider changing that “Oh, no, not another one” to “Ah ha! Another one! Wait till you see how I resolve this one!”

Inside of you is 100% capability. That’s right. Every challenge is a spiritual awakening. It is awakening some aspect of your Self. It is encouraging that aspect to flex it’s muscles, perform well, and then allow you the delight in your own resourcefulness.

Two men looked out of prison bars.
One saw mud; the other, stars.

The way you perceive the challenges life throws at you will determine how successfully you learn more about your own capabilities, your overriding sense about life in general, your joy about the piece of you that is spiritually awakening and about your spiritual health in general. If you cannot see your capability immediately, gently ask yourself to show it to you. What do I have inside me that would allow me to handle this? What aspect is there in this challenge that I’ve handled before? How would I like to see this story end?

You are the arbiter of your own fate. You are the helmsman of your own ship. You are the teacher of your own life’s lessons, and you are the answer book for those lessons. Knowing that you can will help you in their resolve. You have what it takes and you are the strength to continue on toward your own success.

The way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and get a record of successful experiences behind you. ~ William Jennings Bryan
