Syrian uprising and our duties

For more than 47 years, Syrians have been waiting for change, certainly as waiting for Godot, a great drama by Samuel Beckett.
Today, all world waiting, watching the situation in Syria, because all the world knows that the collapse of the regime will be the turning point in the world s political map after the fall down of the soviet union and the rest of socialist block by the end of 1980s.
Syria is a small country, but the Assad s regime really did a great job by turning it into a great state in the region.
Many Syrians discussing now about their situation, asking: will the regime step down? Will the regime crackdown the protesters in bloody way? Will Syrian witness another new disaster like Hama? Questions and questions, but it s regrettable, that I heard no answers by prominent educated opposition persons.
I will start here talking about my views about Syria, my home-land, hoping to see many other opposition persons talking and writing their views to improve the consciousness of masses on the ground.

No one can deny the ultra-power of the Syrian regime, which based on dictatorship, crackdown, sadistic-treatment of any opposition movement, even if it were in the form of an article in tabloid! In Syria no one can do anything separately of the regime ( during Bashar Al Assad years, its became something easy).
Today, Syria is not witnessing a revolution! It s totally an uprising, it s not a revolution because a wide sections of the Syrian society don’t take it s decision to participating in the protests against the regime, not because they like him, but for many reasons, in the first place fearing of future, however, Syria is one of world s high-profile in ethnic and religious diversity.
I believe in the words of Riyad At-Turk, the famous Syrian opposition leader, when he said: all Syrian people (23 millions) are opposition against the regime..!. today, I remember these words, however, many Syrians who go in protests against the regime were ready to go and fight to protect the regime, just a days before March-15-2011 the day when the uprising starts.
Minorities fear their future, they saw and still seeing what happening in Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and Sudan. So their fear is legal, especially when they see an everyday activities belong to bigots Muslim-Sunni persons who are in increasing a day after day.
As an opposition person, I believe that the Syrian regime will never fall in the near future, because of it s structure which is tribal, class and sectarian. However, many minorities and tribes support him, also the remains of the public sector, we can still seeing the iron-hand of the regime over the majority of the working class.
This working class is organized in unions and Al Ba ath party, so It s decision to protest against the regime, needs a great mobilization by the opposition.
Democracy, that Syria really needs, will never be declared when the regime fall, and that very important point which needs to be discussed by Syrians. There is a problem with democracy inside the society itself: the Islamic heritage of the society, ethnic and religious diversity, the average of the educated persons and one or tow another problems that we should tackle to build our democracy.
Also, the social-economical side of democracy which secure the political democracy in any society. I believe, that we need to discussing all of that topics and issues during the uprising and later the revolution, because I believe, according to history, revolution needs another revolution within it.
Today, the historical opposition and the intellectuals in Syria should take their duties seriously, today we need, not only a revolution against the regime, but also a revolution against our bad and out-dated ideas and traditions! WE NEED A REVOLUTION AGAINST EVERY THING.
We need a new Syrian reborn on the day of the regime collapse. I know that Syrian who fear the revolution, wants to hear us and see us. If we, as intellectuals, never criticize the bad approaches and misbehavior of the masses during the revolution, so we should never wait the wide sections of the Syrian society to leave the waiting list and join the revolution.
Frankly, masses who are in the waiting list will leave it but to join the regime if leftist and secular opposition don t do it s role seriously!.
