Captain Sameh El-ashmawy from Egyptian Ministry of Interior naked and tortured a Sudanese Child

And the prison s authority refuses to release the child in spite of a discharge verdict

The authorities of Egypt s ministry of interior had arrested the refugee child: Murtada Mohamed youssef, his file No. is: EG2009/ 64, his mother: Omaia Murtada Abdalla, her file No. is: EG2009/64 is a refugee too from Northern Sudan-Barbur city. She used to live in Om Baddah-Omdurman. The child who is less than 18 years was arrested while he was buying some biscuits from a kiosk near Bab El-louq Telephone Centre (central bab el- louq) at Mohamed Mahmood Street-down town on Wednesday, June 15, 2013, where Captain: Sameh El-ashmay, the Assistant of Police Intelligence at Abdeen Department, the Egyptian police officer who interrogated the Sudanese child, has naked and walked with his shoes on the lying body of the helpless Sudanese child to and fro many times while the rest of Abdeen police elements were beating him hardly on different parts of his body using their foots and hands for full week, after which they put the child in solitary confinement for 25 days.
It happened that some Egyptian youth had burnt a police car at Mohamed Mahmood Street on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, the matter which had resulted in the death of one of the policemen and survival of the other. The authorities of Ministry of Interior was uncooperative and prohibited the child from calling his mother´-or-his relatives, moreover the policemen at Abdeen Department – it is the police department which arrested the child – denied that they know,´-or-even have any information about the Sudanese child, during his mother hard and ardour-search for her son in Egypt s police departments and hospitals. After 25 days, a Nubian Egyptian, who is visiting someone in that prison, identified the Sudanese child and informed his mother after he managed to know her whereabouts in Giza. The Sudanese child was transferred after 25 days from his solitary confinement cell to another cell with adults. Middle, North & East Sudan Refugees Committee (MNERC) has informed UNHCR, Cairo, with all these facts, and have handed the photocopies of: the child s certificate of birth, his unhcr card as well as his mother s unhcr card, to Mr. Mike Houghton, from
Community Outreach Focal Point, UNHCR, Cairo. The Child s mother has communicated and met each of: Arabs Council for Fair Trials & Human Rights, known as (ACSFT) who referred her to their Lawyer: Mr. Emad Hamdy, and Africa & Middle East Refugees Assistance, known as (AMERA), who referred her their Lawyer: Mr. Ashraf Milad… The child s mother is complaining bitterly from vexation and uncooperativeness from both mentioned lawyers concerning her child s case. These two organizations are unhcr partners and their duty is to provide Legal Support to refugees in Egypt, while lots of refugees have complained about their worse services. Mr. Esam Ali, who is an Egyptian lawyer from the Egyptian Foundation for Refugee Rights, known as (EFRR) which she was referred to by MNERC was now following the case of the mentioned child.
It worth mentioning, the verdict of that court on Saturday June 29, 2013, was discharge of the child, but the prosecution appealed. The child is still imprisoned with adults in harsh and inhumane conditions in a prison behind Cairo Security Headquarters, at Bab El-khalq square. We are in great fear of his life´-or-his being subject to more physical and psychological harm. We urge all refugee communities, organizations, human rights organizations and all Sudanese citizens inside and outside Sudan to exert genuine efforts as to release the Sudanese child: Murtada Mohamed Yousif Hamid, and ensure his rights as a child. It is a turmoil moment in Egypt with critical security situation. Refugees in Egypt have been complaining repeatedly for more than 10 years from racial discrimination and violation of their basic human rights.
