The immune system shows an abnormal response to COVID-19

  The COV-2 SARS immune response differs from that caused by other respiratory viruses. This finding supports the idea that treatments targeting the immune system can help people with COVID-19.

CoV-2 SARS-infected cells have been shown to produce unusually low levels of antiviral proteins called interferons compared to cells with other respiratory viruses. However, levels of some proteins, such as IL-6, that activate general immune responses are higher in infected and non-infected subjects.
  The results indicate an immune system disorder: low interferon levels reduce the cell s ability to reduce viral reproduction, and stimulating less specific immune responses promotes inflammation.
 
Research has also demonstrated that young children are not immune to COVID-19 and children may be infected with COV-2 after close contact with an infected person.

By analyzing approximately 400 cases of COVID-19 and 1300 people were in "close contact" with the injured. The team found that 7% of close people under the age of 10 were almost as infected as in the general population.

  The researchers also found that only 9% of the original cases were responsible for 80% of the infections detected in close contacts. Such events can lead to large COVID-19 groups
