GOSSIP ON THE BANKS OF ILLUSION
Poem by: Mahmoud Said Kawash
I liked to say something, I had never said before
I liked to do something, I had never done before
I liked to walk in the street, alone with my dreams
I liked to wet my naked body in the heavy rain
I liked to sip the raindrops from a passing cloud
All without the names I wrote on the walls of my heart
Because they were nicknames, love used to call me by
I was never just a woman who loved to sit on the vacant seat
Because I loved myself in all times and at all age
No man, no matter how strong he was, could break my heart
Had that happened, I would easily announce the eternal launch
I would not be delayed to open my heart and confess to him
Specially if the echo of my voice struck the walls of his heart
What could I say while I was striving to describe the situation
Living within the arms of a profound complicated thinking
In a time charged with the breeze of the expected newcomer
The important question comes now:
Was the love I had felt true and achievable,
Or was it just gossip on the banks of illusion?
