WHEN I ADORED YOU

Poem by: Mahmoud Said Kawash

Before adoring you, I was just a normal woman
When I adored you,
I became a “legion” of women
Leading the hordes of longing
Defending the veins of the dreams
Mastering the arts of seduction
Before adoring you, I was just a normal woman
When I adored you,
The mirrors repainted my face in broad daylight
The earth withdrew from under the feet of winds
My bag of desires took refuge in the heaven’s pocket
Before adoring you, I was just a normal woman
When I adored you,
I became used to calm down the devils and the hermits
To catch dreams from the slaughtered blind annelids
To issue “fatwas” to permit the tyranny of women
To walk and swagger proudly on my anklets’ ringing
Before adoring you, I was just a normal woman
When I adored you,
Everything was changed and I became the way I should be
Dancing and kissing the forehead of the earth with desire
Violating the traditions of my heart
And adoring a man who used to climb the air!!
