Atheists and believers
When you read Islamic history, you will see many personalities who are classified as atheists´-or-infidels. Among them, for example, but not exclusively: Ibn al-Rawand, al-Razi, al-Farabi, and Abu al-Ala al-Ma ari (he was from the Syrian Maarat al-Nu man). The accusation of being heretic did not stop with these, but rather went beyond them to include individuals who interpreted the Quranic text to fit the logic of divine justice, including Al-Ja’ad bin -dir-ham, who was slaughtered by Khalid Al-Qasri in the mosque as a sacrifice to God on Eid Al-Adha. And let us not forget Ibn al-Muqaffa’, who excelled the caliph by killing him, as he ordered the soldiers to cut off his fingers and limbs and to roast them in front of him so that he could eat them,´-or-al-Hallaj, who was crucified and burned. All of these were killed as an act of closeness to God, just as (ISIS) did and is still doing in its controlled area.

The stigma of infidelity and atheism is often not devoid of political dimensions, such as the case of Muhammad Mahmoud Taha from Sudan, who was sentenced to death (1985) by hanging on charges of apostasy at the hands of President Jaafar al-Numeiri. Mahmoud Taha divided the Holy Qur’an into two phases: the Meccan phase and the Yathrib phase. As for Mecca, it is - as he said - the spirit and core of the Islamic religion, and as for the Yathrib stage, it is the period of the establishment of the state, and it was historical for that time. It is an attempt to acquit the Quranic texts from such issues as jihad, violence and terrorism. But Nimeiri s order to hasten his hanging was not only motivated by disbelief and apostasy, but rather was political, because this Taha formed an opposition political party under the name of the Republican Party, where Nimeiri found a threat to him, then Al-Azhar s fatwa came to confirm apostasy and infidelity.

The fear of politicians and clerics for their positions pushes them to excommunicate anyone who tries to pave a different path from them. Socrates is the most important example of this, as he guided the youth of Athens to the realities of existence and to the banality of idolatry. The authorities found him a threat, so it ordered him to be killed by drinking poison. Socrates is considered the mainstay of Western philosophy, just as he is the mainstay of what is called Islamic philosophy. His disciples tried to convince him to back out from his ideas to avoid death, but he refused and clung to his stance and remained faithful to his thoughts, so he died with his head held high, and his ideas and philosophy still have so much impact on us until this day.

Let’s not forget the Egyptian thinker Ismail Adham, who wrote the book "Why am I an atheist?" Then he committed suicide at a young age. He was fond of mathematics in addition to his interests in other applied sciences. Another figure is Saudi Abdullah Al-Qasimi, who began his life as a fundamental Muslim attacking the Shiites with speech and writing, and then he was attracted by the wave of disbelief and misguidance, so he started writing books on atheism and criticism of religions. And for those who want to expand on the history of atheism in Islam, they should read the book “The History of Atheism in Islam” by the Egyptian philosopher Abd al-Rahman Badawi, who wrote more than 150 books before he died.
Now, after this introduction, we see that the number of atheists in the Arab world is on the rise with the increase of fanaticism and Wahhabism movements, also, the dominance of ISIS. You cannot be intolerant in one side until you see the reaction on the other side, especially after the ease of accessing acquaintances for free on the Internet and the expansion of social networking sites. What makes matters worse is that many of these were originally in the Brotherhood organization´-or-former sheikhs and imams who had memorized the Qur’an and Hadith. And when some try to argue with them, they often lose the debate for two simple reasons: the first is that they know more than the debater about the Qur’an and Sunnah, and the second reason is that they speak with rational evidence, and the debater speaks with faithful knowledge that is not based on mental evidence. For example, the disputing believer cannot prove the existence of angels´-or-devils, and therefore the debates turn into a futile debate in which the number of atheists increases even more.

Therefore, do not argue with atheists. Whoever believes in God and Islam, because he is comfortable with that and feels belonging, not because there is evidence and proofs. Another thing, shouldn t clerics and sheikhs purify the Islamic heritage that we inherited? For these atheists, they read to you from Sahih Bukhari and authentic Muslim hadiths, and they read to you the verse of the sword that ISIS reads and relies on in slaughtering, skinning and capturing people.
